The family of Santiago Maldonado will appeal Judge Lleral’s decision closing the case

Next Tuesday, January 29, at 9:30 am, the appeal hearing of the resolution issued by Judge Gustavo Lleral will be held in Comodoro Rivadavia, “closing the case: forced disappearance and death of Santiago Maldonado.” The presentation will be made by the family of the artisan and Human Rights organizations.

“From the beginning of the case, we demand a serious, impartial and exhaustive investigation in order to arrive at the truth. Instead, we found a judicial system that was responsible for attacking both Santiago and our family through Judge Otranto and Prosecutor Ávila, “said the Maldonado family, today publishes El Patagonico.

It also refers to “a judicial system that through the inaction of Judge Gustavo Lleral who arrived at this resolution without even having made a reconstruction of the circumstances in which Santiago disappeared on August 1, 2017.” Lleral closed the case in November of last year.

The family added: “In that hearing we will explain what are the countless points of the file, autopsy and expertise that were not taken into account by Judge Lleral or the prosecutor resulting in this painful resolution and leaving in evidence the need to close the case as fast as possible”.

In the appeal before the Federal Chamber of Comodoro Rivadavia there will be present Nora Cortiñas, militant and defender of human rights, co-founder of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo and Sergio Maldonado, brother of Santiago.

Judge Lleral had released a 300-page ruling in which he concluded that Maldonado had drowned without the intervention of third parties. It was not a Forced Disappearance, such the main hypothesis of the cover.

They followed all the procedures that they asked for, the experts added part, it was all transparent and we always listen to them. So far the facts reveal that according to the forensic analysis carried out by 55 experts, the artisan drowned in the waters of the Chubut River and his body showed no signs of being dragged or violated.
